NORTHLANDS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
John Windwick, Chair Volunteer since 1997, Member since 1997, Director since 2000. John Windwick is the vice-president, Government and Community Relations at ATB Financial. Mr. Windwick currently sits as Commissioner for Canadian Finals Rodeo. He is active in the community and volunteers for groups including the 65 Roses Sports Committee, Kinsmen Club of Edmonton, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, World Masters Games, Alberta Lung Association, and the TELUS Edmonton Open.
Laura Gadowsky, First Vice-Chair Volunteer since 1993, Member since 1995, Director since 2003. Laura Gadowsky is a certified meeting planner and president of Gadowsky Special Event Management specializing in corporate and government meetings, symposiums and sporting event operations. Laura serves as Chair of the Edmonton Rodeo Cowboy’s Benevolent Foundation.

Randy Garvey, Second Vice-Chair Director since 2005, Volunteer since 2005. Randy Garvey is an executive vice president with the Canadian Western Bank. He has extensive experience as a senior executive in the public sector having held positions with WCB-Alberta and the City of Edmonton. Randy’s volunteer activities include sitting on the boards of Certified Management Accountants of Alberta and the Edmonton Chartered Financial Analyst Society.
Andrew Huntley, Past Chair Volunteer since 1972, Member since 2002, Director since 2002. Andrew Huntley is an investment portfolio manager specializing in commercial real estate. He is active in his community and has served as a board member for the Capital Health Authority, a trustee for the University of Alberta Hospital Foundation, and was a founding director of the Real Estate Council of Alberta.
Linda Banister Volunteer since 2011. Member since 2011. Linda Banister is the President and owner of Banister Research & Consulting Inc., an Edmonton-based full service management consulting firm providing consulting services in market research and performance measurement. Linda is a Certified Management Consultant and has over twenty years of experience in the industry. She has served as President for the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Alberta and for the Canadian Evaluation Society, Alberta Chapter. Linda is an active board member for several community-based organizations and involved in empowering communities. A native Edmontonian, Linda’s connection to Northlands began with her father who was employed by the organization for over thirty years. Linda also worked at Northlands starting at the age of 14 years, working part time and summers for 8 years throughout her university studies.
Jennifer Fisk Volunteer since 2004, Member since 2006, Director since 2006. Jennifer Fisk is president of Freestone Integrated Communications Ltd. She is an active member of the community, also serving as a Board Director for Live Local and the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights.
Jeff Haley, MBA, Volunteer since 2009, Member since 2009. Jeff Haley has a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alberta and currently works for the Insurance Bureau of Canada as the Director of Government Affairs. Through IBC, he has been involved in community initiatives such as fundraising for the Brain Injury Association of Alberta, and supporting Operation Red Nose of Alberta. Jeff’s roots are steeped in Alberta politics and in the agriculture industry and he is excited to lend his talents and knowledge to the Northlands Board of Directors.
Scott Kashuba Volunteer since 2004, Member since 2006, Director since 2008. Scott Kashuba is the Director of Corporate Enterprise Risk Management for the Government of Alberta. He is currently Chair of the government’s Management Employees Pension Plan Board and past-chair of the Excel Society and the MacEwan University Alumni Boards.
Harold Kingston, FCA Volunteer since 2000, Member since 2000, Director since 2001. Harold Kingston is a partner of Kingston Ross Pasnak LLP, one of Alberta’s largest independent chartered accountancy firms. He has in-depth experience in governance and strategic planning, particularly with respect to matters concerning non-profit organizations. In addition to serving on numerous community boards, Mr. Kingston is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta (ICAA), is on the Board of Governors and is chair, Finance Audit Committee for MacEwan College.
Earl Klapstein Volunteer since 1992, Member since 2002, Director since 2006. Earl Klapstein is a partner and manager of Eddie’s Men’s Wear, a family-owned Edmonton business. He is a founding member and past-president of the Old Strathcona Business Revitalization Zone, chair of membership for the Synergy Network, and a long-time volunteer at Northlands.
David Majeski Volunteer since 2006, Member since 2008, Director since 2009. Dave Majeski is the Vice-President of RBC Royal Bank of Canada with a 40-year plus history with the company. He is on the Board of Directors for the Downtown Business Association and Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and a trustee with the Edmonton Rodeo Cowboys Benevolent Foundation.
Burke Perry Volunteer since 1970, Member since 1985, Director since 1996-99, 2007. Burke Perry is president of Burke Perry Master Builder Inc. and LOOK Homes Inc. He is the chair of the Alberta New Home Warranty Program, past director of Kids With Cancer Society and past president of both the Edmonton Region Home Builders’ Association and Canadian Home Builders’ Association - Alberta.
Andrew Ross Volunteer since 2011. Director since 2011, Andrew Ross is the Vice President of Corporate Development at Clark Builders, a General Contractor with expertise in logistics and project execution for industrial, commercial and institutional projects. He re-joined Clark Builders in 2011 to bring strategic leadership and guidance to grow the business and develop people. Previously, Andrew was the Office Managing Partner at Conroy Ross Partners for an eight-year term. Andrew is extensively involved in the community and serves on several community-based Boards and committees, including those designed to enhance the lives of disadvantaged youths, promote education and promote economic opportunities in the region. Andrew was born and raised in Edmonton and Northlands has been a big part of his life. He continues to share these experiences with his family.
Directors Representing the City of Edmonton
Mayor Stephen Mandel Director since 2004. Serving Alberta’s Capital City, Mayor Stephen Mandel has led the City of Edmonton since October 2004. Mayor Mandel is a strong advocate for Alberta municipalities and, through key initiatives like Port Alberta, he continues to foster Edmonton’s growing position as a hub for northern development, transportation, logistics, manufacturing and research. He remains active in the community and volunteers for such organizations as the Mazankowski Heart Institute, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Jewish Community Centre, and Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre.
Kerry Diotte Director since 2010. Kerry Diotte was elected in 2010 as City Councillor for Ward 11. For three decades, Kerry worked in various media such as CBC-TV, the Ottawa Journal, the Calgary Sun, Alberta Report, Maclean’s Magazine and most notably the Edmonton Sun. While working at the Edmonton Sun, Kerry found his niche as an opinion columnist covering City Hall and civic issues. His direct writing style, knowledge of issues and flair for helping readers solve problems made him one of the city’s most popular columnists. An award-winning writer, he was a long-time national director of the Canadian Association of Journalists, wrote two successful commemorative magazines about the 1987 tornado and authored a book about the Edmonton’s recent history. Kerry enjoys travel, writing, golf, scuba diving and photography.
Coun. Ed Gibbons Director since 2007. Ed Gibbons was elected in 2001 as City Councillor for Ward 3. He is Co-chair of the Edmonton Salutes Committee and a member of the Rotary Club. He is involved in the Alberta Avenue Revitalization Initiative, the Fort Road Revitalization, North Edmonton Industrial Initiative and Borden Park Initiative. He served as president of the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association and past president of the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues.

Mel Knight, MLA for Grande Prairie-Smoky was appointed to the Northlands Board of Directors on January 13, 2012. He also serves as a member of the Special Standing Committee on Members’ Services, Private Bills, Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing and Finance. Mel Knight is also an active participant in the Energy Council and co-chairs the Energy Task Force with the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER).

Susan Green Volunteer since 2003,Director since 2007. Susan Green has over 14 years of experience in a variety of senior roles in Alberta’s public sector. Ms. Green has held the positions of VP External Relations at the University of Alberta; Vice President, Planning and Development at the Alberta Cancer Board and Executive Officer of the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Susan is presently involved with a number of humanitarian, arts and educational boards and organizations. In 2005, she received Alberta’s Centennial Medal for Community and Professional Service and was named the 2006 Global TV Woman of Vision.
