When I started working at Northlands at the age of 16, I thought, what better place to work at than the home of the Edmonton Oilers. As time passed, I developed a huge admiration for the organization and for the people who worked for the organization. The staff treated me like a member of the family, always making me feel welcome and helping me whenever I needed a hand to complete the task. As I continued to work, I was promoted through many levels of the food services area where I ended up as an Inventory Supervisor.

It was at this position that I developed my purchasing skills. I found that I was very interested in the knowledge and skills required for the position and decided that I wanted to optimize my potential in this area. A manager in another area also recognized the skills and determination I had and hired me to work in the Stores area. He also encouraged me to take courses that would further my knowledge in the purchasing field. I am now one step away from receiving my CPP (Certified Professional Purchaser) designation. If it hadn't been for my managers insight, and support from various staff members of Northlands, I may have never obtained this goal.
