Northern Star Talent Search huge success at Capital EX – again

EDMONTON – Alberta’s next BIG stars have been crowned at the Northern Star Talent Search during Edmonton’s Capital EX. Tevra and Chadd Plamondon of Red Deer are budding young performers who won their way into the judges’ hearts, and grabbed the Grand Prize, with their tap duet “All of Me’.
As the Northern Star Talent Search winners, Tevra and Chadd receive a prize package that includes:
- An opportunity to compete at the 2010 Canadian Youth Talent Competition hosted by the Canadian Association of Fairs & Exhibitions in Calgary, Alberta
- $2,000 in prize money
- The opportunity to perform at Tap Into A Cure’s finale showcase
- Performances at Edmonton’s Capital EX in 2011 and 2012
- Prestigious trophy and gift package
The first runner-up was John Morin of Sherwood Park, and Quincy Pipella from Edmonton won the second runner-up prize.

The recipient of this year’s Colin Forbes Memorial Scholarship is Taylor Fawcett of Sherwood Park. The $1,000 scholarship, offered in fond memory of former Northlands General Manager Colin Forbes and donated by Northlands, is awarded to a Northern Star Talent Search Youth Competition semi-finalist studying in the field of Music, Fine Art, Vocal, Dance or Drama at an accredited Post Secondary Institution.
The following Marcella Merrigan Memorial Scholarships have been awarded:
- Youth Division: Jadey Bauer of Edmonton ($1,000)
- Junior Division: Carly Kennedy from Red Deer ($500)
The Junior Competitions held during Capital EX earlier in the week also had a wonderful showing of talent and produced a great group of winners:
July 23 – Ages 5 – 8 yrs Dance/ Variety – Ashley Abrahart Vocal / Instrumental – Sharmaine Pagtakhan
July 24 – Ages 9 – 12 yrs Dance/ Variety – Emily Beach Vocal/Instrumental – Cassidy Zahar
July 25 – Ages 9 – 12 yrs Dance/ Variety – Christopher Spourghan Vocal/ Instrumental – Daylin Jorgensen
Northern Star Talent Search is north/central Alberta’s largest amateur talent competition held annually during Edmonton’s Capital EX. The program supports the discovery and development of amateur talent and provides an opportunity for competitors age five to 21 to showcase their vocal, dance, music or variety skills.
