Venues Today ranks Rexall Place 10th in the world

EDMONTON, AB - With over 100 concerts, shows and community events, Northlands has moved Edmonton up on the world’s stage once again. Venues Today has released its mid-year report, ranking Rexall Place 10th in the world and 2nd in Canada. The ranking is determined by the gross ticket sales for all ticketed concerts and events (excluding home teams) in arenas with a capacity of over 15,000 from October 16 – May 15, 2009.

To date in 2009, Northlands has brought the biggest names in entertainment to Rexall Place such as the Eagles, Coldplay, Rod Stewart, Britney Spears, Jonas Brothers, Kings of Leon, Fleetwood Mac and Dane Cook.

In addition to the concerts, fans packed Rexall Place to see the Toronto Raptors vs. Denver Nuggets, Stars on Ice and So You Think You Can Dance Canada just to name a few.

“Northlands has attracted some of the biggest stars in the entertainment industry and it is based on our expertise and reputation that we are able to deliver a variety of shows,” said Trish Macdonald, Northlands Vice-President Business and Community Development. “We are proud to be a leader in our industry and drive the economy in the region, while profiling our great city.”

In 2008, Northlands’ concerts and events, generated $237 million in economic activity.

Northlands also ensures that Rexall Place, which they own and operate, opens its doors for community events such as fundraisers in support of the Mayerthorpe RCMP Memorial and the upcoming Tim McGraw private concert.

“Over the past several years we have seen sell out show after show and Northlands would like to thank our fans for their support,” said Macdonald. ”The industry has noticed that we set the stage for unforgettable entertainment and we are also proud to partner with tourism and local organizing committees to attract national and international events.”

In December 2009, Northlands will host the premier curling event in the country at Rexall Place with Roar of the Rings. And in 2010, Rexall Place will be home to more headliner concerts, events and shows including the Canadian Country Music Awards.
