Rising stars compete at Northlands in the Canadian National College Finals Rodeo
EDMONTON, AB – Northlands is proud to partner with the Canadian National College Finals Rodeo (March 26–28) and Lakeland College, to bring rodeo fans the top 10 finalists from the 2009 Alberta college rodeo season.
Contestants in the CNCFR hail from across Western Canada and attend college or university. Cheer them on as they compete in all of the traditional rodeo events, plus goat tying and women’s breakaway calf roping.
“College rodeo is a stepping stone and a tool that students use to further their rodeo careers,” says Casey Crandall, outgoing president of the Canadian Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (CIRA) an organization that has been producing college rodeos for more than 20 years. “This association promotes academics first and the sport of rodeo second. The number of rodeos is limited within a school year to give students time to juggle both their studies and still pursue the sport they love.”
The caliber of competition on display each night is second to none, and many of these competitors go on to compete on the pro circuit. The list of the pros that have risen up through the college ranks includes 2007 Canadian Bull Riding Champion, Nathan Roy, who was also a two-time College Champion.
The Canadian National College Finals Rodeo begins nightly at 6 p.m. in the Northlands Edmonton Expo Centre (Hall D). Be sure to get your rodeo tickets in advance for the Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening performances on March 26–28. Tickets for CNCFR are available through Ticketmaster at (780) 451-8000, or online at www.ticketmaster.ca. For more information, visit www.farmandranchshow.com.
