See, hear, smell and taste Alberta! With urban farming demonstrations, culinary workshops and rural farm tours, Alberta Open Farm Days is your chance to experience real farm life and see where your food comes from. Meet farmers and learn what you can do in your own home and backyard!

Beekeeping 101 – Learn tips and tricks to housing bees in your backyard. Everything from building a hive to caring for your bees. 9:30 a.m. 3:30 p.m.
Urban Hens in Your Backyard – Interested in Urban Hens? Come and learn where to purchase birds from, handling your hens, feed, managing waste, how to design your coop for healthy birds, diseases, dealing with mortalities, and biosecurity practices as well as bylaw information and the purpose of having backyard chickens. 10 a.m. 1 p.m.
Cider Making – Ancient Technology, Modern Delight – Did you know that a healthy mature apple tree can produce over 200 pounds of fruit per year? Do you want to learn one of the fastest and easiest ways or preserving your harvest for the coming winter? The apples we find in our backyards produce some of the best cider that money can’t buy! Come and see how to quickly crush and juice hundreds of pounds of apples into a delicious treat that will have you savouring your harvest on even the coldest winters night. In 60 minutes Operation Fruit Rescue Edmonton will teach you the easiest way to preserve the apples that our volunteers are rescuing throughout the city! Come and enjoy a glass of cider and learn how apples have been preserved for hundreds of years! 10:30 a.m. 2:30 p.m.
Farming in Your Backyard – Learn about the opportunities to farm in your own backyard! 12:30 p.m. 2 p.m.
Squirmy Wormies Indoor Composting – Did you know that you can turn your apple cores, paper napkins and banana peels into rich, healthy plant food by composting them? You don’t need a backyard or a big space to do it either! Vermicomposting, or composting with worms, is easy, educational, and perfect for apartments and small spaces. 11:30 a.m. 3 p.m.

Rural Farm Bus Tours – $5 per person

9 a.m. Morning Tour – Join us in visiting two farms in Sturgeon County – Sprout Farms Apple Orchards and Erdmann’s Gardens & Greenhouses. Tour bus will leave the Northlands Urban Farm (113 Ave & 79 Street) at 9 a.m. and will return at 12:30 p.m. Get Tickets
1 p.m. Afternoon Tour – Join us in visiting two farms in Strathcona County – Galloway Seeds Ltd. and Barr Estate Winery. Tour bus will leave the Northlands Urban Farm (113 Ave & 79 Street) at 1 p.m. and will return at 4 p.m. Get Tickets
