Willow Weaving Workshop with Maryann Borch
Sunday, Sept 6
2 – 4 p.m.
We will use locally harvested willows to create: first a small wreath and then learn the basic over under weaving technique to create a soap dish. This is called a tension tray. This technique can eventually lead to a large garden gathering basket or cheese tray. Samples of these will be available for viewing as well. All willows will be soaked ahead for each participant and individually packaged.
*If possible, please bring your own pruning shears as we will NOT be able to share tools. Limited quantity will be available onsite.*

Red Shed Gallery Urban Gardens – Paintings by Jill Thomson

Saturday & Sunday
11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Jill Thomson’s Urban Garden paintings celebrate creative life in cities, tending gardens in all manner of livingsituations: front yards, balconies, rooftops and community plots; with a renewed connection to small, regional farms. They are inspired by cities stablishing “within walking distance” escapes into nature and bicycle paths to local shops; offering breathing space to congested urban quarters and breaking the grid of city life with organic growth and flora. She received her B.F.A. from Concordia University in Montreal and is currently pursuing a Masters in Human Ecology Material Culture at the University of Alberta with her main project being a series of Urban Garden paintings. She is represented by AGA Art Rental and Sales in Edmonton and Gibson Fine Art in Calgary. Nine of her paintings are featured in a permanent alley installation as part of a revitalization initiative for Arts on the Ave in Edmonton. She has artwork in The Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Edmonton City Hall and in private national and international collections.
